Dear AutoPIPE Development Team,
We are currently working on a high-level automation of piping stress analysis using the AutoPIPE NTL batch processing format. To improve the accuracy and efficiency of buried pipe analysis via batch input, we would like to request the following enhancements and clarifications for the NTL command set:
1. Explicit Support for "Ovalization Effect" and "Circumferential Bending Term" at Bends When analyzing buried pipelines, it is technically critical to account for the reduction in stiffness due to bending ovalization and the resulting circumferential wall bending stresses. While these can be configured in the GUI, we request that the BPOP (Buried Pipe Options) and JSIF (Joint Type & User SIF) cards be enhanced to explicitly support:
-
The inclusion of the circumferential bending stress term in code compliance calculations (e.g., B31.4/B31.8 requirements).
-
Verification that these settings are correctly reflected when importing from an NTL file without requiring manual UI intervention.
2. Robust Control of "Automatic Soil Discretization" via NTLFor buried pipe modeling, executing "Soil Discretization" (generating intermediate soil points) is essential. We request that the SOIL card be improved to ensure that the "Soil Properties Generated" flag (Y/N) and related spacing parameters (Zone 1/2 spacing, etc.) work reliably during the automated NTL-to-DAT conversion process .
3. Streamlining Batch Result Extraction for these ParametersFinally, we request that the PRIN card be updated to allow specific sub-reports for "Soil Overburden Loads" and "Buried Pipe Results" so that we can extract these critical values into Excel VBA more efficiently.
We believe these improvements will significantly empower engineers who rely on automated batch processing for complex pipeline projects.
Best regards,
